If you are looking for an opportunity to practice and improve your Spanish, experience school and life in another country, do community service, visit new places, learn about other cultures, and create friendships that will last for a lifetime, Ecuador is the right Winterim for you.
We will be spending three weeks living and studying in Guayaquil, Ecuador. While in Guayaquil, students will be living with host families and attending classes at Colegio Steiner, our sister school. Our students will attend regular classes with Steiner students as well as participate in classes specifically designed for them to enhance their understanding of Ecuador – its politics, economy, history and culture. All classes will be taught in Spanish. Students will also have the opportunity to explore and know Guayaquil, from its IMAX Theater and modern shopping area at Malecón 2000 to el Parque Histórico.
Furthermore, there are day trips and one overnight trip planned to deepen the students’ understanding of and appreciation for the Ecuadorian culture. We will take a trip to the beaches to see the dolphins and other marine animals. An overnight trip brings us to Cuenca – a UNESCO World Heritage City - and its surrounding area, visiting el Cajas National Park as well as Ingapirca, an ancient Inca ruin.
We will also participate in some community service activities while in Guayaquil. With the Steiner School students, we will go to a nearby public school, Puerto Hondo, to help teach English classes once a week.
Preference will be given to students currently or previously enrolled in Spanish.
Cost includes transportation and all trips; does not include personal spending money or cost of valid passport and visa if needed
